Requirements

Theis a once in a generational leadership opportunity emanating from the Georgetown Law Center, the university’s Capitol Campus has expanded significantly in recent years through acquisitions and new construction.

The Capitol Campus includes the Law Center, School of Continuing Studies, undergraduate students, graduate students, and Executive degree programs.

The Associate Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing the Student Affairs Capitol Campus team focused on the student and staff experience and promoting a collaborative, integrated community.

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students, this position provides vision and leadership in building a shared community through developing, implementing, and assessing a broad range of programs building environments, nurturing growth, encouraging growth, and promoting health and well-being.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Leadership

Coordinate the Division of Student Affairs on call system and collaborate with the Dean of Students on protocol revisions / updates.

Connect students with learning and living at the Capitol Campus connecting one another through partnerships, co-curricular engagement, service-learning opportunities, and local events and resources.

Support students engagement with the broader DC community through student recreation, service opportunities with the un-homed community, internships, programming, and mentorships.

Lead efforts supporting students to be successful in their academic and professional and personal endeavors including housing, safety, policies, food options, and the food pantry and services.

Serve as a member of the Division of Student Affairs leadership team and align the goals, priorities, and learning outcomes with the mission, vision, values of Georgetown and the Division of Student Affairs.

Provide leadership in developing services, programs, and campus culture at the Capitol Campus, developing complex and nuanced communication strategy for internal and external audiences.

Works collaboratively with the core leadership Student Life team including the Executive Director for Capitol Campus Operations, Academic Assistant Deans, and the Mission & Ministry leader.

Facilitate, implement, and evaluate goals and standards, developing policies and programs consistent with and in support of institutional values, goals, and mission.

Emergency and Crisis Response

Lead and coordinate management of crises, including serious accidents or psychiatric emergencies while working closely with campus partners and serving on a Duty rotation.

Respond after hours, including evenings and weekends, to emergency and community crises, coordinating Critical Incident Review Team procedures and calls.

Develop, maintain, and properly execute campus emergency response protocols as outline by departmental and university expectations.

Participate, develop, implement, and assess the campus crisis management, assessing risk and liability and appropriately consulting with campus partners.

Serve as an Emergency University employee, understanding the legal landscape pertaining to university policies and federal and local laws, including Title IX, ADA, ACA, & FHA.

Human Resources and Organizational Management

Hire, train, and supervise the Student Affairs team at the Capitol Campus, overseeing training and leadership development.

Represent the Division of Student Affairs, interfacing regularly with Capitol Campus leadership of academic and administrative units, senior leadership of Georgetown University in addition to students, parents, community stakeholders, and neighbors.

Coordinate with partner offices including Planning and Facilities Management, GU Police, University Information Services, Deans Offices, University General Counsel, and College and School Deans to ensure standards, response, planning, and priorities.

Develop long-range planning for budget, staffing structure, and resource allocation, coordinating staffing rotations between Hilltop and Capitol Campus facilities.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Ensure policies, practices, structures, and systems support an inclusive environment, understanding and complying with local and federal regulations.

Train staff regarding application of local and federal regulations, providing learning opportunities that deepen knowledge, skills, and awareness of self and others.

Establish and promote policies, practices, structures, and systems support in an inclusive environment, creating spaces for dialogue around diversity and inclusivity.

Promote pluralism, inclusiveness, and sensitivity with regards to interactions with students, faculty, and staff and incorporates pluralism into leadership, training, and educational opportunities.

Assessment, Benchmarking, and Technology

Utilize technology to support mission, vision, and priorities, using emerging technologies that enhance the student experience, administrative processes, and marketing / social media.

Lead, design, and promote assessment, using assessment results to align resources and goals.

Work Interactions

The Associate Dean for the Capitol Campus reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. Staff supervision is enrollment dependent with plans to increase staffing over the next three years.

The Associate Dean provides leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for staff, cultivating the Capitol Campus culture, responds to campus emergencies and crisis, engages with the neighborhood, promotes justice and service, and represents the Division of Student Affairs, interfacing regularly with Capitol Campus leadership of academic and administrative units, senior leadership of Georgetown University in addition to students, parents, community stakeholders, and neighbors.

Requirements and Qualifications

Master’s degree; Doctorate is preferred, preferably in the area of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or Social Work

7 - 10 years of previous full-time, progressive professional experience

Experience working with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds including BIPOC students, LGBTQ students, first generation students, students with disabilities and other underrepresented groups encompassing undergraduate and graduate students

Demonstrated experience in the areas of leadership, supervision, professional development, administrative skills, social justice & inclusion, community development, educational engagement and emergency response

Demonstrated knowledge of organizational, managerial, budgetary, and financial management skills

Experience in leading and supervising a diverse group of professional and student employees

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communications skills; and understanding of legal and risk management

Experience in coordinating efforts to support students and collaborate with campus partners regarding crisis management, case management, and students of concern at a leadership level

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

Experience in a Jesuit, Catholic educational setting with particular attention to the role that mission plays in developing students, such as demonstrated care for the whole person and supporting diversity in community

Skills related to data and assessment and experience working in a multi-campus environment

Ability to work collaboratively with a broad group of stakeholders

Experience with enterprise systems including Maxient and StarRez

Knowledge of higher education and student affairs

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

$135,188.00 - $264,291.85

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
