Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Electrician Apprentice :

To perform skilled and semi-skilled duties to maintain ship's operational systems as experience and on the job training skills dictate.

To become qualified to assume the responsibilities as assigned to the duty rotation roster for the ship as well as duties required by museum events.

To perform duties as duty electrician requiring call in status in case of system failure or other emergencies which the shop may be responsible for.

The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following :

  • Perform complex maintenance and repair tasks involving shipboard and landside electrical systems and components. On a periodic basis, conducts inspections of museum ships for electrical hazards.
  • Initiates and performs preventive maintenance on equipment in the employee's area of responsibilities. Rotates in a duty statue with others in work group to provide electrician support for off hour emergencies.

Will be required to operate sound and light systems for special functions after hours and weekends when needed.

Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations required by the Agency. Attends monthly safety briefings, safety JHA or toolbox talks and completes online E-Safety courses as required.

Wears all prescribed personal protective equipment as required by the work activity or task. Operation of PPDA equipment - only after receiving equipment training- in a safe manner.

Employee may be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies and or special events. Has responsibility as an "on call" employee and may be called back to work due to a work emergency.

Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency including assisting with event set-up / break-down, onboard lift operations from shore to ship and vice versa.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
  • Employee must be currently attending an apprenticeship program through an accredited technical college and receiving structured on the job training.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and complete the curriculum and on the job training.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Knowledge and skills to correctly and safely maintain electrical systems and fire systems used onboard two ships and landside critical to operation of the museum.

Employee must continue to receive on the job training as mandated by his apprenticeship training with respect to specific requirements as determined by the shop supervisor.

The position requires rigorous physical activity in a shipboard working environment. Must be capable of climbing vertical ladders, lifting reasonable amounts of weight normally encountered in the performance of their duties, as well as knowing when to ask for assistance when the weight is too heavy to lift, and walking long distances in a single workday.
