Summary

Summary : Under general supervision of the Technology Strategy and Portfolio Manager, or designee, the IT Senior Project Manager will manage projects of critical priority and high risk for the City, working closely with executive sponsors, business owners and vendor representatives to ensure they are on time, on budget, in scope and to the required quality specifications.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties

Essential Job Functions :

• Leads cross-functional teams to implement technology projects of critical priority and high risk.
• Develops project plans, manages scope, documents risk, and communicates with stakeholders.
• Manages vendor relationships, including being the primary vendor contact, and organizes communication between internal staff and the vendor.
• Manages business and technical tasks, maintains work list, task owners, due dates, and any applicable notes. Ensures tasks are completed on-time.
• Serves as integral part of technology procurement team including contributions towards business case development, requirements definition / review, vendor evaluation, return on investment calculations and final solution recommendation.
• Resolves project issues working independently with the business owner and vendor.
• Supports and helps facilitate software implementation activities including change management, configuration, user acceptance testing and training, helping where necessary to meet the goal of a successful go live.
• Supports the Project Steering Committee process for project initiation, senior management review, resource allocation, prioritization, and reporting.
• Communicates with all team members to ensure proper engagement in project and understanding of business impact.
• Develops understanding of each department's long-term plans and how it relates to the greater program management for the City and impact to future technology projects.
• Assists project owners with budget, training, procedures, and transition to support.
• Maintains comprehensive understanding of all existing city systems, know their capabilities and how they interact to identify additional department use, integration opportunities and cross-departmental impact of changes.
• Provides work direction and / or supervises project staff such as team members, subordinates, contractors, vendors.
• Recommends PMO staff hires / terminations and participates in recruitment activities.
• Coaches and mentors staff on project management best practices.
• Conceives ideas for PMO process improvement projects and leads approved initiatives to completion.

Do you have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, or related field; and seven (7) years work experience as a project manager or equivalent combination of education and experience?

Do you have five (5) or more years' work experience as an IT Project Manager and / or IT Project Coordinator?

Do you have three (3) or more years' work experience working as an IT Project Manager on enterprise class software projects as your primary position?
