Description :
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams per department procedures.
The technologist has the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies safely.
They are responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and / or treatment of diseases.
The technologist can independently perform job functions.
They set up equipment to provide imaging services and position patients for procedures.
The technologist verifies proper clinician orders and obtains complete clinical histories.
They follow established procedures for the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring no patient condition deteriorates.
They ensure all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately.
The technologist reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients accordingly.
They respond to emergency situations and provide maintenance for life support equipment.
The technologist observes patient conditions and evaluates when physician intervention is necessary.
They verify patient identity using two unique identifiers prior to procedures.
Ensuring patient privacy and comfort is a priority.
The technologist demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques based on patient age.
They organize schedules, time, and priorities so that activities are accomplished within designated time frames.
Following physician instructions during procedures is essential.
The technologist employs critical thinking skills and communicates effectively with patients and families.
They seek clarification on ambiguous orders and understand pre- and post-procedural care.
The technologist maintains competence in venipuncture and uses sterile techniques.
They demonstrate the ability to adjust techniques for optimal image quality.
The technologist reports equipment malfunctions promptly for timely correction.
They maintain, clean, and disinfect equipment in accordance with infection control policies.
Patient education is important, and the technologist explains procedures clearly to minimize anxiety.
The technologist addresses patient questions and concerns satisfactorily, notifying physicians when needed.
They ensure documentation is concise, legible, and contains precise terminology.
Participating in training and orientation of departmental employees is part of the role.
Quality control measures are maintained, ensuring acceptable images and proper equipment functioning.
The technologist restocks supplies and keeps the department in an orderly condition.
Transporting and positioning patients is required during various procedures.
Performing patient charging activities on the day of service is necessary.
The technologist applies supportive and immobilization devices as needed.
They willingly assist others and take on additional clerical duties when required.
Maintaining an individual productivity rate comparable to peers is expected.
Understanding and maintaining compliance with regulatory agency standards is crucial.
The technologist takes calls as necessary and performs other duties as assigned.
