Columbia Home Services (CHS) is a private equity–backed platform actively investing in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other trade-related service companies. We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support our corporate finance and accounting function. The right candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, process efficiency, and compliance while supporting the continued growth of our expanding platform.
This position is remote, but candidates based in the Chicago area are preferred to allow for occasional onsite collaboration with the corporate team.
Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing corporate accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with a strong command of GAAP and a commitment to continuous improvement in accounting operations.
Requirements
- Own the accounting and financial reporting for the corporate business unit, including journal entries, month-end close, reporting, analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage intercompany accounting across the platform to ensure accounts remain balanced and accurately reflected in consolidated financial reports.
- Oversee company-wide insurance policy applications, renewals, and annual insurance audits.
- Participate in the annual financial statement audit by preparing reconciliations and audit work papers for all operating companies.
- Support company-wide accounts payable processing and drive full utilization of the Ramp A / P automation platform.
- Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing internal control policies and procedures across the organization.
- Support accounting integration processes for newly acquired operating companies.
- Complete special projects as assigned by company leadership.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.Minimum of 4 years of verifiable accounting experience with a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Must be comfortable working remotely with occasional onsite visits in the Chicago area.Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct and QuickBooks; familiarity with ServiceTitan is a plus.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, nested formulas, and logic functions); intermediate skills in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and company locations.High level of professionalism, accuracy, and sound business judgment.Please submit a copy of your resume for consideration.
