Sous Chef Responsibilities
The Sous Chef provides full-scope, hands-on production cooking in our community culinary program and is responsible for ensuring excellence in food quality, service, and cleanliness.
Exemplify high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization
Ensure food quality, appearance, and presentation always meet standards
Prepare and serve meals in compliance with nutritional / dietary criteria and physician orders
Demonstrate speed, accuracy, and efficiency in cooking
Regularly visit residents to evaluate food service and make improvements as needed
Embrace a culture of hospitality — deliver excellent customer service to residents, guests, and coworkers
Plan, prepare, and present meals for residents, activities, and special events
Maintain compliance with local codes and policies for food safety and storage
Inspect storage areas and ensure supply control
Complete administrative duties such as reports and inventory tracking
Maintain clean and orderly dining areas
Obtain and maintain ServSafe / Food Handler’s Permit
Foster teamwork and positive interactions across departments
Support a professional image through dress and conduct
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Experience.
Sous Chef Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience in a restaurant, senior living, or equivalent cooking environment.
Ability to follow approved, standardized recipes and menus for regular and therapeutic diets.
Ability to make independent decisions without supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with residents, family members, team members, and the public.
Ability to make decisions in stressful situations.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to direct team members effectively.
Possess good character and a high degree of personal integrity.
Demonstrate genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older adults and their families.
Required to receive the annual Flu vaccine, excluding religious or medical exemptions.
