Position Overview
OutKast Industrial Group is seeking a skilled and safety-oriented Industrial Technician to join our team. This full-time position involves the safe cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of aboveground storage tanks, underground tanks, and pipeline systems for industrial and commercial clients. The Industrial Technician will be responsible for operating specialized equipment, performing confined space entry, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
This role requires advanced safety awareness, technical knowledge of tank and pipeline systems, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-risk situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning, sludge removal, and decontamination of aboveground and underground storage tanks.
- Conduct manual and mechanical cleaning of pipelines, including pigging, flushing, hydro-blasting, and chemical circulation methods.
- Operate vacuum trucks, high-pressure water jetting equipment, Hydroblasters, and mechanical cleaning tools.
- Safely set up, monitor, and dismantle confined space entry systems, including ventilation, retrieval, and atmospheric monitoring equipment.
- Properly identify, label, and transfer recovered waste materials for treatment, recycling, or disposal per EPA and DOT regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, waste manifests, and compliance documentation.
- Support spill response and emergency cleanup efforts when required.
- Adhere to Lockout / Tagout (LOTO), hot work permits, confined space entry, and other regulatory safety procedures.
- Maintain equipment in serviceable condition and report deficiencies promptly.
- Serve as entrant, attendant, or rescue team member during confined space operations.
- Perform standby rescue responsibilities in compliance with OSHA 1910.146 (Permit-Required Confined Spaces).
- Operate and maintain confined space rescue systems, including retrieval tripods, winches, fall protection devices, and SCBA units.
- Conduct atmospheric monitoring and maintain ventilation systems to ensure safe entry conditions.
- Participate in rescue drills and training to maintain readiness for emergency response.
- Assist supervisors with the development and implementation of confined space rescue plans.
- Maintain all rescue equipment in a state of operational readiness and ensure proper documentation of inspections.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.Must be 18 years of age or older.Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.Ability to lift up to 55 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.Willingness to work in industrial environments with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, hydrocarbons, and extreme weather.Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings, background checks, and occupational health medical clearance.Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 2–5 years of experience in tank cleaning, pipeline maintenance, or related industrial services.Knowledge of tank cleaning methods, including :Manual sludge removal
Hydro-jetting and high-pressure water blastingCirculation and chemical cleaningVapor control and degassing techniquesKnowledge of pipeline cleaning techniques, including :Mechanical pigging and gauging
Line displacement and dewateringFamiliarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry Standards) and 29 CFR 1910.146 (Permit-Required Confined Spaces).Confined space rescue knowledge, including retrieval systems, fall protection, SCBA, and rescue planning.API Tank Entry Supervisor knowledge, including :API 2015 and API 2219 safety practices for tank entry and cleaning
Oversight of safe work practices during tank entryCoordination of permits, atmospheric testing, and rescue preparednessCertifications preferred :40-Hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)
Confined Space Entry & RescueRespiratory Protection Fit Test / TrainingOSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Industrial SafetyExperience with API standards (API 653, API 570) is a plus.Willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and medical evaluation (as required by law and company policy).Employment Conditions
Full-time position; schedule may include nights, weekends, and overtime based on project requirements.
