Woodstock Police Department - Lateral Application

This position performs general duty police work for the apprehension of criminals, prevention of crimes, protection of life and property, and general enforcement of all laws and ordinances on an assigned shift under general supervision of a Sergeant. Performs duties in compliance with all state and federal laws, standards, and guidelines and departmental policies, procedures, and directives. Maintains conduct toward individuals, which displays a firm and fair attitude, respect for personal rights, and concern for safety.

Essential functions include enforcing City ordinances and state statutes; patrolling in assigned areas; operating radar and breathalyzer equipment; investigating crime and responding to complaints; checking vacant residences; watching for stolen cars and other safety concerns; collecting and preserving evidence; directing traffic; controlling crowds; filing complaints; and assisting in providing information about law enforcement activities. The position also requires proficiency in the use of police-related equipment, knowledge of criminal justice and court operations, and the ability to perform in stressful conditions.

Minimum qualifications include being a certified police officer in the State of Illinois, US citizenship, a valid driver's license, no felony convictions, and passing background, physical ability, polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations. Preferred qualifications include previous law enforcement experience, a bachelor's degree, an associate degree in criminal justice or related field, or prior military service with honorable discharge.

The position requires occasional exertion of physical force, operating motor vehicles, exposure to dangerous situations, and wearing specialized protective equipment. It may involve exposure to blood / body fluids and infectious diseases.
