Salary Range : Based on experience
Role : As a Linux Device Operations Engineer, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of the entire software lifecycle for our embedded Linux-based consumer devices. We are looking for a highly skilled engineer passionate about embedded systems, Linux, and large-scale device fleet operations.
Essential Functions
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded Linux images, including kernel configuration and system-level optimizations.
- Manage end-to-end device provisioning, ensuring secure and efficient initial setup and lifecycle tracking.
- Implement and maintain secure remote connectivity for device status and health reporting.
- Own and manage the OTA update infrastructure, ensuring reliable deployments and rollback strategies.
- Manage Linux drivers and Debian packages for optimal hardware performance.
- Develop and maintain fleet monitoring systems for health, software versions, and critical metrics.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software / system-level issues from the field in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Implement and enforce security best practices for device communication, OTA updates, and user data protection.
- Automate processes for builds, provisioning, deployments, and data analysis using Python and Bash.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for device operations and troubleshooting.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).5+ years of experience in embedded Linux development or operations with a focus on device fleet management.Strong expertise in Linux system architecture, bootloaders (U-Boot, GRUB), and root filesystem creation (Buildroot, Yocto, Debian).Hands-on experience with OTA update frameworks (Mender, RAUC, or similar).Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) for automation and tooling.Experience with SQL / NoSQL databases for device data tracking.Familiarity with cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT).Knowledge of Linux drivers, CI / CD pipelines, and debugging complex system issues.What makes you stand out
