Responsibilities
- Monitor Observation - Continuously observes and accurately recognizes actionable conditions on cardio-respiratory and video monitors. Detects changes from patient baseline and reports changes to caregiver. Systematically scans and interprets screens, applying appropriate algorithm in response to monitor interpretation. Distinguishes artifacts from valid waveforms and differentiates life-threatening changes. Ensure timely caregiver response to alarm situations. Validate / document appropriateness of alarm settings according to age specifications or orders with RN caregiver each shift. Participate in daily high-level review with clinical staff. Maintain ongoing documentation of monitor patterns during MRT / code situations. Monitor sound levels and intervene in real time to promote a healing environment. Run / analyze decibel reports. Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to reduce noise levels. Orchestrate home video connections for families per guidelines. Provide thorough reports to covering individuals.
- Customer Service - Demonstrate CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers, exemplifying extraordinary customer service and satisfaction; interact with parents / guardians to obtain non-clinical information as requested.
- Communication - Promptly and effectively communicate significant cardiopulmonary events or safety risks to RN / RT. Keep audio station open during emergencies and respond to requests. Seek counsel from clinical staff if alarm parameters need alteration. Report present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change-of-shift summaries. Document information appropriately in the patient medical record. Use SBAR when interacting with caregivers regarding alarm status and patient status. Respond to calls, nurse call system, internal / external customers, and take clear, concise messages when needed.
- Compliance - Maintain understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in regulatory compliance efforts. Ensure certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled timely. Share best practices in safety with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives. Ensure and review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information (HIPAA, Informed Consent, Advanced Directive for patients 18 or older) as defined by CCHMC's mission, laws, and regulations. In-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards and application to clinical practice.
- Patient Care - Provide input into the plan of patient care, anticipate needs, and assist in implementation. Perform patient care interventions as designated or delegated by licensed personnel. Supervise developmentally appropriate activities. Integrate age-specific and culturally diverse concepts, considering the patient's age and developmental level. Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of visitors. Assist with patient transport as needed.
- Environment - Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and developmental levels. Report malfunctioning equipment and environmental hazards. Keep information systems and equipment issues tracked and resolved. Maintain adequate stock and storage of supplies and equipment. Ensure work areas are organized and safe for employees, patients and families. Attend required Cincinnati Children's training on safety topics and infection control policies.
- Administrative & Financial - Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability with respect to charges; perform duties related to charging and reconciling charges as assigned. Respond to alarm systems and assemble charts; stock clerical supplies.
- Regulatory Standards - Comply with policies protecting patient rights for informed consent and handling of confidential information. Respect confidentiality of patients, families and employees. Exchange appropriate patient care information as required.
- Learning and Development - Participate in staff meetings and required inservices. Engage in unit and Cincinnati Children's activities and committees, seeking information and guidance when needed.

High school diploma or equivalentRelated hospital experienceListing on the State of OH STNA registry OR is or has been an EMT or ParamedicCompletion of required Cincinnati Children's orientation and CPR certificationCompletion of the CCHMC Monitor Tech Class with passing written exam and competencyListed on Ohio STNA registry OR Ohio CNA; if CNA is from another state, reciprocity within 180 days of hire OR listed on Ohio Emergency Medical Services RegistryBasic EKG interpretation skillsAdditional Details
