SUMMARY : Teaches art to adults with disabilities and assists Program Director by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• In conjunction with all other staff, establishes and maintains a creative and pleasurable environment in The Studio.
• Acts as a stimulating and inspirational force, helping each artist grow to fullest capacity.
• Continuously develops and carries out projects to expose students to as wide a variety of art experiences as possible.
• Maintains a portfolio of each artist’s work in sequential order.
• Helps select artwork for exhibit in the Studio and for outside exhibitions.
• Maintains art supplies and equipment. Notifies Lead Art Facilitator if supplies or equipment are needed.
• Organizes preparation for work and for cleanup of Studio.
• Designs and uses adaptations of art supplies and equipment as needed by each student.
• Performs other assignments as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Positions supervised : None

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in social work, special education, psychology or related field and a minimum of one year working with individuals with disabilities. Also requires experience in fine arts; practicing artist preferred. Practical experience in teaching art to people with disabilities highly desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to read, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

Current First Aid and CPR certificates, TB clearance, physical exam, and fingerprint clearance.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :

Must have the ability to teach and work effectively with people with disabilities. Must also can design, organize, and adapt projects to students’ needs. All employees must possess the ability to work with a cheerful and caring attitude toward their co-workers, clients, and the community .
