The Medical Assistant (MA) is a skilled medical professional responsible for supporting TAN Healthcare's mission by providing direct clinical care and administrative support across Primary Care, Pediatrics, and Behavioral Health services. As part of the integrated care team, the MA collaborates with providers, nurses, and support staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care in a community health center setting.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Perform patient triage and rooming, recording vitals and patient histories (including medication, surgical, social, and family history).
- Conduct basic laboratory tests and blood draws (as needed); perform point-of-care testing (flu, COVID, strep, EKGs, urine dip, pregnancy, drug screening, etc.).
- Assist providers during exams and procedures, including setup and post-care.
- Support behavioral health integration by administering screening tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7, MMSE, Mood Disorder Questionnaire) and documenting results.
- Provide patient education regarding chronic disease management, medications, and preventive care.
- Administer immunizations and injections per standing orders and protocols.
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Process medication refills, diagnostic imaging requests, and patient follow-up communications.
- Document all encounters in the EMR (in-person and telephone), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support care coordination across service lines (primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, and specialty referrals).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the culture of safety, confidentiality, and compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and TAN Healthcare policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and organizational needs.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.Current MA certification preferred.Experience in community health or multi-specialty practice preferred.Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Commitment to TAN Healthcare's mission and values of equity, compassion, and patient-centered care.Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with EHR documentationWork Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.Frequent bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.Exposure to clinical environments include contact with patients, biological materials, and potentially infectious agents (with appropriate protections in place).Must be able to use computers, telephones, and other standard office / clinical equipment.Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
