Hourly Pay Range : $19.29 - $23.00
Shift : Monday-Friday Flexible
Provide American Sign Language (ASL) – English interpreting as needed for various community and staff assignments in a professional, ethical capacity. This position requires membership to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, knowledge and understanding of Deaf Culture, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and fluency in ASL.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain a revolving schedule of interpreting assignments in a variety of settings in the WNY communities.
- Regularly check in with scheduling team for last minute requests or additional assignments requiring coverage.
- Track and report all assignments completed weekly to Director.
- Maintain membership to the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, in good standing.
- Maintain confidentiality and abide by the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain current skills and knowledge of industry trends & changes.
- Assist in outreach efforts for interpreting services, while in the field and on an on-going basis, as requested by the Director.
- Provide VRI interpretation, as needed.
- Assist Director in the planning of interpreter professional development activities.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate's degree in ASL / English interpreting field and 4 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Significant knowledge of Deaf & Deaf-Blind culture and communities, sign language interpreting community, code of professional conduct and best practicesMust demonstrate effective and culturally competent ASL & English interpreting skillsSensitivity and experience working with diverse cultural communities and individualsAbility to work with minimal supervisionWork collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentOffice, administrative, phone and computer skillsAbility to travel to various locations located in, but not limited to Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Monroe Counties.Ability to sit and / or stand for extended periodsManual dexterity sufficient to perform interpreting dutiesADMIN
