Overview Design Lead role at Major League Baseball (MLB) . MLB is looking for a Design Lead to oversee the development and execution of applied brand design across MLB’s key visual identity systems. This role will serve as a Design Lead for brand development, working closely with the Brand Strategy and Event Leads to ensure clarity, consistency, and cohesion across all MLB design outputs.

Responsibilities Overseeing how brand guidelines and style guides are translated across real-world applications

Managing high-level projects with a focus on consistency, quality, and clarity

Partnering with the Brand Strategy Lead to help evolve and expand brand toolkits

Providing design direction and quality control across production-ready assets

Support the expansion and consistency of MLB branding by liaising with key partners — including Broadcast, Consumer Products, and other internal and external stakeholders using official league marks.

Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure our brand lives across platforms with integrity and impact, including : Working closely with fellow Design Leads across Brand Strategy and Events to deliver unified solutions

Mentoring and managing Senior Designers and freelancers

Collaborating with Digital, Social, International, and Partnership teams on asset development and rollout

Building our brands with a focus on brand guidelines and usability

Supporting design implementation for major sponsorships, media campaigns, and partner activations

Drive brand development across physical and digital channels, including : Executing brand touchpoints from large-scale activations to digital graphics and signage

Refining in-market and event materials to reflect brand intent and league vision

Creating clear design systems that scale from campaign concept to venue implementation

Champion team-wide collaboration and shared ownership of creative output, including : Working closely with project management and production leads to keep timelines and priorities aligned

Monitoring and guiding the application of MLB brand assets across platforms

Supporting the growth of team members through feedback, delegation, and design critique

Contributing to Global Design process evolution and upholding a positive, collaborative culture

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field

Minimum 8 years of experience in branding, graphic design, or visual identity systems, with 2+ years in a leadership role

Experience leading creative teams or mentoring junior talent

Deep understanding of how brand systems scale across physical, digital, and experiential platforms

Strong portfolio showcasing identity systems, brand development, and campaign execution

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and presentation software (Google Slides, PowerPoint)

Experience working in or adjacent to professional sports, particularly at the league or agency level

Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment

A passion for sports culture and a commitment to collaborative creative leadership

Salary Salary Range : $105,000 - $120,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision. In addition to your salary, MLB believes in providing a competitive compensation and benefits package for its employees.
