Staff Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development at Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world.
The Engineer IV – Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing engineering input to product development projects, interfacing with cross functional teams including engineering, operations, sourcing, quality, service, and marketing.
Responsibilities
- Designs, validates, and brings new products to market.
- Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs; evaluates design effectiveness, cost (including cost / benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
- Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans for a variety of products and components; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.
- Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
- Utilizes CAD or CAE systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
- Acts as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline;7+ years of relevant work experience;Preferred Qualifications
Experience in systems engineering and new product design and development.Able to solve complex engineering problems utilizing 8D methodology.Strong technical skills to include 3D modeling in Creo.Experience in volume manufacturing of outdoor power equipment or other machinery related industries.Experience with machine design, fabricated components, weldments, stampings, machining, belt systems.Advanced knowledge of GD&T and assembly tolerance analysis.Advanced knowledge of Design for Assembly and Design for Cost.Design experience with a variety of materials (plastics, steel, aluminum) and basic knowledge of material specs and use.Ability to conduct basic analyses using DFMEA, FEA, and hand calculations.Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes.Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projects of increasing complexity.Previous experience with SAP or equivalent ERP.Ability to translate technical information to all audiences.Strong written communication and presentation skills.Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; use hands to manipulate objects or controls; stand and walk. May be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. Occasionally lift up to 25-50 pounds. Requires prolonged computer-based work with close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
