Position Summary :

Akicita Federal is seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Assistant to join our team at the Sisseton IHS Service Unit. The ideal candidate will support dental staff in providing high-quality oral healthcare services to the Native American community. This role is critical to ensuring efficient, patient-centered dental operations and supporting the overall mission of the Indian Health Service.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Prepare dental operatory with necessary instruments and materials for each patient visit.
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including general, pediatric, and preventive dentistry.
  • Take and process digital dental radiographs (X-rays).
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Record treatment information in patient records using Electronic Dental Records (EDR).
  • Provide patients with oral hygiene instructions and post-treatment care guidance.
  • Manage dental supply inventory and notify staff of low stock or needed equipment.
  • Ensure clinical areas meet all cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the dental team and support administrative duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED

    • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential preferred

  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program or equivalent work experience

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (must be current and valid)

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA standards, including infection control practices
  • Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity to the Native American population
  • Ability to pass a federal background check and drug screening

    • $75,000 - $85,000 a year
