County Surveyor
Position Overview
This position involves a wide range of responsibilities primarily related to the review of subdivision plats, land survey plats, and ALTA / ACSM land title surveys. There are opportunities where this position may prepare stamp survey drawings, as-builts, and
construction stakeout deliverables, as well as create design support surveys and topographic maps. In addition to survey responsibilities, this position may assist with Right-of-Way Permit and / or Grading Permit review.
Responsibilities :
Survey Preparation and Pre-Filed Research
- Research information required to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information.
- Conduct comprehensive deed and land record research to verify and support both new and historical surveys by establishing accurate chains of title through grantor and grantee indexes, and other legal records.
- Utilize a wide range of resources—including Bureau of Land Management (BLM) records, local monument records, and state and federal archives—to thoroughly investigate property boundaries and title history, following leads across multiple sources as needed to corroborate findings.
Survey Review, Execution, Analysis & Deliverables
Review subdivision plats, land survey plats, and ALTA Land Title Surveys for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.Responsible for analyzing property boundaries for roads, facility sites, and other rights-of-way and easements.Compile survey computations with applicable standards to determine the adequacy of data.Compile the necessary information to stake projects for construction, utilizing engineering plans.Analyze / process field information required to create topographic / design support surveys.Prepare stamp survey drawings, as-builts surveys, and related deliverables.Project Management & Administration
Prepare proposals for various survey efforts as well as manage project budgets and schedules.Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
Responsible for reviewing Right-of-Way Permits and Grading Permits.Other Duties
Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions.Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government's mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.Other duties as assignedEducation, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration :
Minimum of six (6) years of experience as a Licensed Professional SurveyorUndergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited program in surveying and / or an engineering degree program.Preferred Experience :
Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS)AutoCAD Civil 3DDrone and Scanner experience a plusKnowledge of GIS software and tools
Licensure, Certification, or Registration
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) LicensureValid Driver’s License and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Ability to analyze field information related to boundary retracement, design support, and construction surveying support.Ability to solve problems using one’s skills and knowledge in real-world settings to solve problems that have not been encountered before.Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.Skilled in supporting communication with participants to ensure project alignment.Accomplished ability to read plans and understand boundary surveying.Complete knowledge of land surveying and equipment use.Complete knowledge of ALTA surveys, boundary analysis, topographic surveys, preparation of easement documents, legal descriptions, final plat preparation, and construction staking.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a self-motivated individual.Ability to take direction, work independently and with a team.Comprehensive knowledge of the Colorado Statutes and Board Rules for surveying.Comprehensive knowledge of the Public Land Survey System.
