Computer-Aided Design & Drafting Designer

This job supports the Facilities Development and Facilities Management teams through the use of drafting and design technology by creating new drawings, updating existing drawings and life safety code plans, as well as compiling technical databases. Performs other duties as assigned for an assortment of organization departments, outside architects and consultants.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associates of Applied Sciences in drafting & design technology or a related field (architectural, construction, interior design)

Work Experience

  • 1 year experience with drafting and design technology
  • Drafting experience in architectural, mechanical, and electrical fields
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge and experience operating IBM compatible PC, HP plotter, HP laser jet printer and other miscellaneous peripherals.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to organize technical information into comprehensible databases.
  • Experience working under stressful situations with frequent interruptions.
  • Job Duties

  • Conduct field (interior and exterior) investigations and verify existing as-built conditions and computerize or insert files of new conditions supplied by architects.
  • Update and manage all computer drawing files, as well as hard copies and related data bases of existing facilities.
  • Prepare documentation of miscellaneous construction activities and inspect contractor work consistent with organizational standards.
  • Support various departments, project engineers and outside consultants.
  • Assist Project Manager(s) with design, coordination and review of projects with users and consultants.
  • Attend construction meetings.
  • Compile technical databases for special requests and / or to satisfy requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Physical and Environmental Demands

    Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. Mechanical lifting devices, carts, dollies, etc., or team lifts should be utilized where appropriate.

    Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and / or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
