Your Role
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will play a vital role in helping students thrive in their educational environment. You will provide essential services that enable students to benefit from their special education programs, focusing on :
- Classroom lessons and activities
- Self-help skills
- Prevocational and vocational activities
- Play, leisure, and social skills
Your work will directly contribute to improved student participation in the general education curriculum, access to the school environment, and engagement in extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you will :
Enhance manipulative skills for self-care and academic tasks.Support school transitions and participation through environmental accommodations.Promote comfort and engagement by maintaining functional postures.Facilitate safe feeding practices for independence.Ensure student safety by minimizing injury risks during activities.Improve coordination for small muscle tasks.Assess and modify the environment to enhance mobility.Utilize adapted equipment to increase functional use of extremities.Engage students through sensorimotor activities that address motor planning and behavior.Train educational staff in body mechanics and classroom adaptations.Support student independence through assistive technology.Qualifications
To excel in this role, you will need :
Education
A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy.A current and active Illinois license to practice, renewed every two years with 24 hours of continuing education.Experience
Experience in evaluating students through observation, therapeutic handling, and collaboration with parents and school teams is essential.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and implement individualized OT intervention strategies.Strong collaboration skills with students, parents, and community agencies.Proficiency in documenting services and evaluating student progress.Commitment to professional growth and ethical standards of practice.Experience in supervising occupational therapy assistants.Why Join Us?
