Underground and subsea cable technology are increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift to enable large-scale and long-distance power transmission.

Position

As an HV Underground Transmission Engineer, you will work closely with regional and global transmission and cable experts within Jacobs to support and / or lead ongoing projects as well as business development and proposal support with a variety of clients including renewable developers, transmission owner / developers as well as utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop HV / EHV cabling systems specifications, concept / detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
  • Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Prepare specifications, power cable route specifications, and reports and progress reports.
  • Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects.
  • Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Support factory inspections and FAT.
  • Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces and EMF calculations, heat induced voltage calculations.
  • Perform design reviews and verification of design.
  • Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request missing information in time to keep the program on schedule.
  • Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications, including dimension and quality checks.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams; Jacobs\' hybrid working policy supports in-person and remote work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and / or subsea cable design and installation.
  • Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP.
  • Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and CIGRE standards.
  • Experience working with major global cable OEMs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America.
  • Ideally, experience with HVDC and subsea cable technologies; PE / PEng license or ability to obtain within 6 months; active involvement in power cable standards groups such as ICC or CIGRE.
  • Compensation and Benefits

    The base salary range for this position is $129,400.00 to $180,000.00 per year. Within the range, pay is determined by location and factors such as skills, experience, and education.

    Health and welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, a 401(k) plan, stock purchase, and potential participation in deferred compensation or Executive Deferral plans.
