Employment Type : Contract 12 months

Location : Painted Post, NY

Schedule : Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 AM 5 : 00 PM (40 hours / week)

Job Summary

The Mechatronics Engineer will be responsible for providing both mechanical and electrical engineering support in the design, installation, start-up, and debugging of manufacturing and research process equipment. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams-including mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, and operations-to ensure successful project execution.

The position involves the practical application of control systems, instrumentation, motion systems / robotics, programming, mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and machine design principles to develop and optimize complex automated equipment and processes.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement mechatronic systems and automation solutions to improve manufacturing and research operations
  • Coordinate and manage project tasks and workplans to meet schedule and technical goals
  • Provide hands-on support for equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Design and integrate PLC / PC-based process and automation control systems
  • Verify equipment builds, layouts, and wiring against engineering drawings
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety standards and best practices
  • Update system drawings, schematics, and project documentation
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, project documentation, and presentations to stakeholders on progress and results

Required Skills

  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles
  • Proficient with mechanical and electrical design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor)
  • Experience with industrial control systems and software (Rockwell, Omron, or Beckhoff)
  • Understanding of electrical panel layouts, schematics, system testing, and safe troubleshooting techniques
  • Demonstrated experience applying scientific methods to execute and analyze experiments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong collaboration skills with diverse and multidisciplinary teams
  • Basic project management skills including scoping, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Desired Skills

  • Experience with mechanical equipment design, installation, start-up, and debugging in a research or development environment
  • Hands-on wiring experience including cabinet building, field wiring, labeling, over-current protection, and shielding for sensitive circuits
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 programming standards
  • Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or MATLAB
  • Soft Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations and reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and external partners
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical / Electrical Technology, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in automation or control systems engineering
  • Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be required (typically one-week trips or shorter) to support equipment check-outs, vendor visits, or part sourcing
  • Primarily on-site at the Painted Post, NY facility
