About the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University has a student body of 1,200 undergraduates, 425 graduate students, and 80 primary and 73 program faculty. In 2025 US News Graduate Program Rankings placed the department as the #2 ranked department in BME in the United States and our Undergraduate Program as the #2 department in the United States. Job Summary

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (http : / / bme.gatech.edu), a joint department between Georgia Tech's College of Engineering and Emory University's School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA), invites applicants for a tenured / tenure-track faculty position. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. This search is open to faculty candidates with a research emphasis in engineering education with potential interest in collaborative biomedical engineering discipline specific research. We are particularly interested in candidates with a range of educational research interests and specializations that either contribute to our existing specializations in engineering education, engineering design and design pedagogy, computing education, and student-centered pedagogical innovation or that extend our departmental areas to include additional areas such as first year engineering, student motivation, team science, global engineering, or learning in digital spaces.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to develop a vibrant externally-funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and should have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, collaboration, and mentorship.

Required Qualifications

A PhD in engineering or related field is required by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Has expertise in teaching, scholarship, and / or service that contributes to access and equal opportunity in higher education

The ability to teach and mentor a student body.
