Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced and motivated MRI Technologist with specialized expertise in functional MRI (fMRI) to join our imaging team. In this advanced role, you will perform both routine and research-based MRI scans, including functional neuroimaging protocols to aid in the diagnosis and evaluation of neurological, psychiatric, and cognitive conditions. You will be responsible for operating high-field MRI systems , ensuring image quality, and working collaboratively with clinical and research staff to acquire functional datasets. A strong foundation in fMRI techniques, patient safety, and image post-processing is essential.
Key Responsibilities :
Perform clinical and research-based fMRI scans including tasks targeting motor, visual, auditory, and language functions.
Administer block and event-related paradigms , and synchronize stimulus presentation with image acquisition.
Operate MRI equipment, set up scan parameters, and monitor the scan process while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.
Prepare and position patients, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout fMRI procedures.
Administer contrast media per physician guidelines, and screen patients for contraindications such as implants or claustrophobia.
Evaluate image quality and collaborate with radiologists and neurologists to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
Troubleshoot issues with acquisition or scanner hardware / software.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, IRB protocols (if applicable), and all institutional and federal regulations.
Maintain clean, functional MRI suites in accordance with infection control standards.
Stay current with developments in fMRI methodology, neuroimaging software, and emerging imaging technologies.
Education & Certifications :
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology, Imaging Science, or related field.
Certification by the ARRT in Radiography (R) and MRI (MR) required; certification in Advanced Neuro Imaging is highly desirable.
BLS certification required.
State licensure as required.
Experience :
Minimum 2 years of experience in MRI , with at least 1 year of specialized experience in functional MRI in either a clinical or research environment.
Familiarity with neuroimaging software such as SPM, FSL, or AFNI is highly preferred.
Experience conducting fMRI studies in collaboration with neurologists, neurosurgeons, or research investigators is a plus.
Skills and Abilities :
In-depth knowledge of functional MRI techniques , image acquisition parameters, and safety considerations.
Proficiency in scanner console operation and patient care in a high-volume MRI setting.
Strong understanding of human neuroanatomy and task-based fMRI design.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with diverse patient populations and interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust protocols dynamically in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable handling MRI post-processing and data export for research or clinical interpretation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment :
Able to lift and move patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs occasionally).
Work involves exposure to confined spaces, noise, and magnetic fields.
Requires standing, walking, and bending during shifts up to 12 hours.
High degree of mental focus, memory, and problem-solving necessary.
