Glass Roots Construction (GRC) was founded by a team of well-funded career telecom and construction professionals. We look to leverage the latest technologies, best-in-industry equipment, and up-to-date construction and safety practices to build a first-class fiber optic utility construction firm in multiple markets throughout the US.
GRC is seeking a motivated and experienced Safety Director to lead our safety program across telecom and underground utility construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring a proactive safety culture, compliance with regulatory requirements, and alignment with customer and company standards. The Safety Director will partner closely with Operations, HR, and field teams to promote accountability, implement preventative practices, and continuously improve safety performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and enforce company-wide safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions for injuries, vehicle accidents, and utility damages.
- Monitor and track safety performance metrics (TRIR, EMR, utility strike rate, DVIR compliance, training completion).
- Ensure strict adherence to 811 pre-dig compliance, traffic control standards, and local jurisdiction requirements.
- Partner with Operations, HR, and Market Leaders to ensure consistent coaching, write-ups, and disciplinary processes.
- Oversee subcontractor safety compliance, including onboarding, acknowledgement forms, and remedial training.
- Lead safety onboarding and ongoing education for employees and subcontractors.
- Report safety trends, risks, and KPIs to executive leadership.
- Drive a proactive safety culture that prioritizes hazard recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the development and continuous updates of the company safety handbook.
QUALIFICATIONS
4-7 years' experience in a safety leadership role within construction, telecom, or utilities preferred.Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.Proficiency in business tools such as email, spreadsheets, and scheduling software.Ability to work independently and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience with project tracking, CRM, or task management tools (e.g., Google Suite, Zoho, Smartsheet).Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety data.Comfort working with remote and field-based teams.Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, CSP, CHST) strongly recommended.REQUIREMENTS
