Description : Position Summary
The Rome YMCA is seeking a dependable and skilled Facility Maintenance Technician to support the safety, functionality, and appearance of our building and grounds under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and the Branch Executive. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in problem-solving, and values contributing to a welcoming environment for families, staff, and members.
Requirements :
- Perform routine building and grounds maintenance, including landscaping, snow removal, and seasonal upkeep.
- Conduct basic HVAC checks and filter replacements; report issues requiring licensed service.
- Handle basic electrical tasks such as light fixture replacement, outlet / switch repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Address basic plumbing needs including unclogging drains, fixing leaks, and replacing fixtures.
- Complete carpentry tasks such as minor repairs, shelving installation, and door adjustments.
- Troubleshoot and maintain facility equipment (e.g., pool systems, fitness machines, vacuums).
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and safety concerns from staff and members.
- Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and event support as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure tools and supplies are properly stored.
- The health and safety of all facilities. Assist all code enforcement and insurance officials in their inspections, resolve / correct any deficiencies and maintain records for fire alarm and suppression systems, boiler inspections, video and door security systems, pool inspections, any other health and safety inspections so that all systems are code compliant.
- Addressing all concerns from other staff and members related to the facility in a friendly and professional manner. This includes members’ comments.
- Attend staff meetings and related training to advance skills including YMCA and other specialized maintenance training.
- Adhere to personnel policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
- Designated as essential staff for inclement weather or emergencies.
- Weekly walk through inspection with Branch Director.
- Monthly preparation of Purchase Order requests for the following month.
- Maintain records of all maintenance.
- Maintain the library of all equipment O& M Manuals.
- May provide supervision of custodial and maintenance staff members at the direction of the department leadership. Must adhere to all current YMCA supervisor’s criteria and be well versed in Employee Handbook Policies / Procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven experience in general maintenance, handyman work, or a related trade.Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry fundamentals.Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues with minimal supervision.Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work indoors / outdoors in varied conditions.High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certifications a plus.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.Computer literate; Able to do web searches for parts or information.
