PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY : Responsibility of the operation of the baler, the banding, and rebinding of large scrap boxes and the mounting of paperboard rolls as needed to meet production requirements. May be called upon to perform Stock Puller duties in the absence of that position.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Responsibility of the operation of the baler
  • Banding of scrap pallets place in the aisle by the sheeter
  • Trouble shoot baler problems, fix if you can, or get maintenance involved
  • 4 down-stroke balers throughout the plant will need to be monitored and emptied as needed
  • Record bale / pallet / bundle weights on each data sheet for resale purposes
  • Monitor each machine to make sure they are running in the correct baler for resale purposes
  • Empty dust collection barrel on each shift
  • Learn the different scrap grades of paper to route to the correct baler
  • Pick up scrap from sheet fed cutters and place on scrap trailer and record weight
  • Ability to operate both automatic and manual balers
  • Replace spools of baling wire as they are used up, these spools are located near the balers and weigh approximately 70 lbs. and must be lifted to a height of approximately 54 inches by hand and mounted on a spindle
  • Must understand and operate all controls on the balers as needed to perform the job duties including using the manual override system to bring the ram forward or backward as needed
  • Weigh and tag all bales coming from the balers listing bale weight, grade of paper, and the name of the baler operator
  • Transport all bales to a designated place in the baler room, or correct scrap trailer using a fork truck, must be certified to operate powered fork truck equipment
  • Clean behind the baler rams once daily by turning the baler off and leaning over the frame behind the baler and sweep the scrap out the back of the baler
  • Pick up rolls from PF-47 if stock puller is unavailable
  • Empty scrap boxes located throughout the plant as they become full
  • Maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans in accordance with our 5S system
  • AUTHORITY :

    Must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and written instructions.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS : Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Must become a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts / moves 25 to 50 pounds, occasionally lifts 75 to 100 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT : Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
