Description Of Duties / Essential Functions

The State of Illinois offers several options to allow candidates to be considered for vacant positions. Interested applicants should utilize the option described below that best suits their needs.
Open Competitive Grades
Note : Selection from an open competitive eligible list will require a currently certified employee to serve a new probationary period.
To be considered for open competitive eligibility for the title of Veterans Employment Representative I - Opt PO2 , you must be deemed qualified by Central Management Services (CMS). Veterans Employment Representative I - Opt PO2 is a regularly tested title that requires an automated multiple-choice test to be taken at one of the CMS Assessment Centers. View the Examination Schedule for times and locations. This title may also require a performance test. Refer to Additional Title and Exam Information for specific details. You will need to bring a completed online or CMS-100 employment application with you. Applicants will not be allowed to test without a completed application.
After successfully obtaining a passing grade, your name will be placed on an open competitive eligible list for Veterans Employment Representative I - Opt PO2 in the two counties you select on your application.
If you are satisfied with the grade you received for this title, option and county, no further action is required. Your name has already been placed on the open competitive eligible list for this title. Open competitive grades are valid for one (1) year.
If you wish to retest for this title to improve your grade, you must wait thirty (30) days from the last examination date to do so. A copy of your application will be required at the time of retaking the test.
Applicants may only be considered for two counties per title / option at any given time. Please ensure you are available to work in the county choices you have selected.
If your current county choices do not include the county in which a vacancy exists, you must change one of your counties to be considered for that vacancy. To do so, complete and sign a Change of Information Form (CMS-263) and submit it to : Examining & Counseling Division, 401 S. Spring Street, 500 Stratton Office Building, Springfield, IL 62706, Fax (217) 524-8740. The form is in PDF format and can be viewed / completed / printed using Adobe Reader. Your name will be removed from the eligible list for vacancies in this title / option for the county or counties that you remove.
Promotional Grades
State of Illinois employees who are currently certified are eligible to receive promotional grades for most titles within state government. At the present time, online applications are not accepted for promotional grading. View the Promotional Grades page for further instructions. You will also need to complete a Bid Form and submit it to the hiring agency along with a copy of your online or CMS-100 employment application.
Note : If you already have a promotional grade for this title / option, you do not need to submit your application for grading again.

There may be situations when obtaining a grade is not necessary. These scenarios include, but are not limited to :
Non-Code Vacancies
CMS does not issue grades for non-code positions, which are defined as positions outside the jurisdiction of the Personnel Code. Non-code positions should be clearly identified on the vacancy posting. To be considered, interested applicants should contact the hiring agency. Please follow the agency's instructions on the vacancy posting for application procedures.

An On-Site Visit Is Required for Testing!
I understand that, by electronically submitting this application, I must appear at an Assessment Center and be administered an automated test in order to receive a grade for this title. Assessment Center locations and business hours are listed on our website on the Examination Schedule page. A completed employment application must be presented at the Assessment Center at the time of testing. You may either print the application you completed online or complete a CMS-100 employment application and present the application to Assessment Center staff prior to testing.
