Safety Sensitive Position Summary :
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will provide advanced nursing care to patients in both the inpatient (hospital) and outpatient (clinic) settings under the supervision of general surgery physicians. This position involves hospital rounding on post-operative and pre-operative patients, assisting in surgical care coordination, and evaluating and managing patients in the clinic.
Key Responsibilities : Hospital Rounding :
Conduct daily rounds on general surgery inpatients, including pre-op and post-op evaluations.
Assess, diagnose, and manage post-operative complications in collaboration with surgeons.
Write notes, orders, and coordinate discharges as appropriate.
Communicate with interdisciplinary hospital teams including nursing, case management, and consultants.
Respond to inpatient consults for general surgery patients.
Clinic Duties :
Independently evaluate pre-operative and post-operative patients in the clinic.
Obtain detailed patient histories and perform physical exams.
Interpret diagnostic tests and labs relevant to surgical care.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and post-operative care.
Participate in procedure clinics (e.g., suture / staple removal, wound care, drain management).
Assist with scheduling surgery and coordinating pre-op evaluations and clearances.
Other Duties :
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and case reviews.
Attend department meetings and educational sessions as required.
Maintain licensure and certification as required by state and hospital policies.
Qualifications :
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Current and unrestricted APRN license in Arkansas
Certification as an NP (Adult, Family, or Acute Care NP preferred).
Current DEA license (or eligible to obtain).
BLS and ACLS certification (required).
Prior experience in surgical or hospitalist medicine (preferred but not required).
Skills and Abilities :

Familiarity with EMR systems and standard documentation practices.
Work Schedule :
Monday – Friday, full-time
Occasional weekend rounding or call coverage may be required (depending on clinic / hospital needs).
