ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES INVESTIGATOR – Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS). DES invites applicants to join a team that helps Arizonans thrive by protecting vulnerable adults. This role involves investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults 18 years or older who are unable to defend themselves. The position is located at 1140 F Avenue, Douglas, Arizona 85607. Salary : $21.5021 - $22.5962 Hourly. Grade : 18. Closing Date : 10 / 5 / 2025.
Job Summary : DES is looking for individuals committed to service, community, and teamwork to support the vulnerable through Adult Protective Services (APS). The APS Field Investigator will work independently in the field, interact with adults and family members in homes or care facilities, and coordinate with external partners (caregivers, medical personnel, police, public fiduciaries, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Investigates, assesses, evaluates, documents, and provides referrals for the most complex cases involving vulnerable adults 18+ who may be abused, neglected, or exploited.
- Determines if there is a need for protective and / or social services.
- Makes time-sensitive contacts with clients and interviews individuals who may have information regarding the situation.
- Writes various assessments and summaries regarding the case.
- Analyzes a variety of complex documents related to investigations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of indicators of neglect and abuse of adults with mental disabilities or frail elderly individuals.Case investigation and social work practices (e.g., elder rights, psychological abuse, adult maltreatment).Appropriate interventions for a variety of behavioral, developmental, and psychological symptoms.Skills

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Rehabilitation, Healthcare, or related field OROne year of experience providing professional Case Management / Investigations Services (Intake, Needs Assessment, Service Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation).Pre-Employment Requirements
In-state travel required. Valid class-appropriate driver's license; complete required training and driver record checks.
