A Brief Overview
Member of the care delivery team will function under the direction of, and be assistive to, a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of sterile and non-sterile procedures. Responsible to provide a safe environment for his / her assigned patients; to complete the assigned work; to monitor the patient for changes in condition and to report those changes to the RN; to document the work that he / she completes; and to document and report any pertinent observations as a result of the interventions. This position is an important member of the patient care team who uses acquired, clerical skills to assist in maintaining efficient workflow to ensure safe, quality care with a patient centered approach focusing on continuity of patient care and satisfaction. Making independent clinical decisions is outside of the scope for this position. Refer clinical questions to the provider or nurse.
Education Qualifications
- Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program. Required or
- Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program. Required or
- A CNA / EMT certification may be substituted for the educational requirement.
Experience Qualifications
Experience in an office or clinic setting. PreferredSkills and Abilities

Active certification to practice in Kansas as either an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is required as a substitute for education qualifications.First Responder - RQI Required within 90 days.What You Will Do
Implements identified plan through coordination of care with interdisciplinary care team to employ strategies to promote health and wellness.Collaborative with interdisciplinary care team encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.Communicate pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting in a timely manner.Promote infection prevention through use of standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene and cleanliness of the patient rooms / department.Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADL's), accurate measurement and recording of weight, height, vital signs and report any changes to assigned nurse.Coordinate patient services to include : lab tests, point of care testing, x-rays, diagnostic procedures, consults, home care, and acute care admissions. Performs age-specific EKGs, in OP Clinic and Cath Lab & IR. Schedule patient appointments.Meets the needs of any patient in the department.Applies proper techniques with simple dressing changes. Maintains and follows proper procedure for sterile technique on dressing changes.Prepares and processes requisitions for housekeeping, maintenance and general supply needs and ensures adequate par levels are maintained.Participates in intra- and interdepartmental committee activities. Attend staff meetings and mandatory retreats in compliance with individual department's requirements.Assist the Cath Lab & IR team with turnover between procedures and follow the proper procedure for sterile technique upon opening sterile packs and items designated by the RN and Technologist.Required for All Jobs
