Full Job Description
Construction Estimator / Cost Engineer
We are looking to hire at least two exceptional candidates in Estimating and Cost Controls. Candidates must be driven and extraordinarily detail-oriented while still possessing the people skills required to effectively communicate with project management, subcontractors, and suppliers—a skill many estimators and engineers do not possess. If you believe you have those skills and attributes, we encourage you to apply. We are not looking for number takers, and candidates should have knowledge of current unit values. There is an opportunity to grow into senior leadership once you have built the confidence of the principals. We are not a large company, so the cream can rise to the top very quickly.
We would also consider adding an additional Junior Estimator to assist with all take-offs if they are driven to further their career quickly. Construction is not brain surgery—you just have to be a student of the game.
The Cost Control position maintains detailed job costing versus original budgeted costs in addition to confirming and writing scopes of work for contracts. This role also involves working with the accounting department on monthly billings, which requires an individual to look both historically and prospectively. Critical to this position is identifying when budget issues arise and communicating them to the project management team and principals. This group is the backbone of the production team.
All candidates will be responsible for estimating and taking off all trades, including architectural, structural, and mechanical. The company is often retained as a construction manager during the concept / schematic phase of projects and is therefore involved with extensive concept budgeting. Candidates will also be responsible for soliciting and qualifying subcontractors and working with the design team on value engineering alternatives.
