Overview :
The Process Engineer is a key technical leader responsible for developing, validating, and continuously improving injection molding processes to ensure consistent product quality, efficiency, and reliability. This position serves as the technical liaison between customers, internal teams, and production staff — leading process validations, supporting new product launches, and driving process control initiatives across the molding operation.
Process Development and Validation
Lead the development and documentation of robust, repeatable injection molding processes that meet quality, cost, and throughput targets.Partner with customers and project managers to define process validation requirements (IQ / OQ / PQ) and execute qualification plans in compliance with internal and customer standards.Establish and maintain validated process windows based on Scientific Molding principles and statistical data analysis.Analyze first article and validation data using software tools (e.g., FimmTech Nautilus, RJG eDART, Minitab) to identify trends and optimize process capability.Provide technical input during design for manufacturability (DFM) and tooling reviews to ensure molds are designed for process stability and maintainability.Process Control and Continuous Improvement
Champion the company’s Process Control Initiative by enabling and verifying press alarms, sensor feedback, and cycle-to-cycle data tracking for all key molding parameters (e.g., cushion, pressure, charge time, temperature, mold protect).Develop and maintain control plans that integrate alarm limits, data trending, and machine capability verification.Collaborate with Process Technicians to identify and correct sources of variation, using structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC).Implement scrap reduction initiatives through data analysis, inline inspection feedback, and parameter optimization.Support the use of IQMS for real-time documentation of process data, setup sheets, and alarm settings to ensure traceability and compliance.Technical Leadership and Support
Serve as the primary technical resource for Process Technicians and Maintenance Technicians, providing coaching, troubleshooting guidance, and process discipline reinforcement.Review and approve all new mold setups and major process changes prior to production release.Coordinate preventive maintenance verification of molding machines and auxiliary equipment, ensuring all process-critical assets meet performance standards.Develop and deliver technical training on Scientific Molding, process monitoring, and validation methods.Customer and Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as the technical point of contact for customers during mold qualifications, validations, and ongoing process improvements.Translate customer requirements into measurable process parameters and quality metrics.Collaborate with Quality, Tooling, and Production teams to resolve customer issues and ensure that corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.Support quoting and new project launch activities by providing process cycle time, material, and equipment capability input.Document and Compliance
Author and maintain comprehensive process documentation including setup sheets, validation protocols, process development reports, and engineering change records.Ensure all process documentation meets ISO 13485 and internal quality system requirements.Maintain records of process trials, capability studies, and alarm verifications for audit readiness and continuous improvement tracking.Qualifications and Skills :
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).Experience : Minimum of 3–5 years of injection molding experience in a technical or engineering role, with proven success in process development and validation.Technical Knowledge :Strong understanding of thermoplastic resin properties, tool design principles, and Scientific Molding methods.Familiarity with process monitoring systems (e.g., RJG, FimmTech, or equivalent) and data-driven process control.Experience leading IQ / OQ / PQ validations and authoring technical reports for regulated industries (medical device preferred).Analytical Skills : Proficient in data collection and statistical analysis; capable of interpreting SPC charts, capability studies, and alarm trend data.Leadership Skills : Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and guide technical personnel while fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.Communication Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and customers.Certifications (Preferred) : RJG Master Molder I / II, Paulson ProMolder, Beaumont AIM, or equivalent process engineering certification.Physical Requirements
