Job Summary :

The incumbent maintains and provides for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems, including the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures intuition wide.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge of plumbing piping systems, underground drainage, water distribution systems and other related special systems. Knowledge of the fabrication of related piping and various materials, and applicable joining methods. Working knowledge of water distribution and wastewater disposalKnowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and proceduresGood communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonalDecision making skillsGeneral computer skillsStrong time management skillsAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics and written reference materialAbility to perform mathematical calculationsAbility to diagnose and resolve problemsAbility to use hand and power tools

Essential Job Functions :

• Assembles, installs, maintains, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler and gas systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes
• Determines sources of plumbing malfunctions and completes repairs as indicated or according to work codes
• Receive and complete work orders
• Selects materials and hardware and makes time and material estimates
• Maintains accurate records on material and labor used
• Maintains inventory of university-owned tools, equipment and materials
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clear
• Works with building principals and supervisors to complete projects
• Detects needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment following established inspection procedures
• Respond to emergency calls as needed
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
• Ensures equipment is in safe operation condition and operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
