American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool position in med / surg, tele, and stepdown units, requiring a PA or compact RN license and strong cardiac skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in an acute care hospital setting, floating between med / surg, telemetry, and stepdown unitsCare for diverse patient populations including post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative, hospice, chemo, and cardiac casesMed / surg units have patient ratios of 1 : 6-7; stepdown ratios are 1 : 4-5Med / surg units feature private bed setups and remote telemetry monitoringStepdown unit features cardiac monitoring and requires RNs to read and interpret strips at a central monitor stationRNs must titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin in stepdownUse of BiPAP, CPAP, and Hi-Flow oxygen therapies managed by RTElectronic medical records system is Epic12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required; holiday rotation as per staff scheduleFloat coverage may include ICU as helping hands and all med / surg unitsPrimary responsibilities include direct patient care, titrating cardiac drips, and monitoring telemetryMed / surg unit staff self-schedule, and block scheduling is allowed based on unit needsStepdown orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor; med / surg orientation is one shift with a preceptorNavy blue scrubs are requiredHoliday coverage rotates with permanent staffCandidates may be required to pass EKG competency testing prior to assignmentSupport staff includes CNAs during day shifts; clinical managers and resource RNs availableNo IV team; ICU charge nurses or director available for difficult sticksTravelers not permitted for more than 1 year cumulative within the health system without a 2-year break\n \n Requirements\n
Active PA or compact RN license requiredMinimum 2 years of recent acute care experienceCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications required for all units; NIHSS required for stepdown / telemetryExperience with telemetry and reading cardiac strips required for stepdown unitMust be comfortable caring for both 'clean' and 'dirty' (including COVID) patients in med / surgExperience with Epic EMR preferredCandidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered for travel positionsPrior employees of the health system must have a two-year break before returning\n Benefits\n
