• Preventive care : Hygienists perform maintenance cleanings to remove plaque and tartar and screen for early signs of gum disease and oral cancer.
• Diagnostic tasks : They take dental X-rays and perform oral cancer screenings, acting as a first line of defense for detecting potential issues.
• Patient care : They create treatment plans and educate patients on oral hygiene, recommending products and demonstrating proper brushing and flossing techniques.
• Technology : Modern hygienists use advanced technology, including digital X-rays, intraoral cameras, and sometimes lasers for procedures like decay removal and teeth whitening.
