What You’ll Do

As a Lead Database Administrator on AT&T’s Systems Database Administration team, you’ll be a key player in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our enterprise-wide database platforms. This role is ideal for experienced professionals who thrive in high-pressure environments, excel at solving complex technical challenges, and are passionate about building resilient, secure, and high-performing systems that support millions of customers and critical business operations.

• Database Reliability Engineering :  Architect and implement proactive solutions to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance across Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Incident Response & Troubleshooting :  Lead rapid response efforts for major database incidents, perform root cause analysis, and drive resolution to minimize business impact.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization :  Analyze system metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to ensure fast, efficient data access and query performance.
• Database Architecture & Engineering :  Design and evolve database schemas, storage strategies, and deployment models to support new applications and business growth.
• Security & Compliance :  Enforce robust security controls, manage access, and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Technical Leadership :  Mentor junior DBAs and engineers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous learning.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration :  Partner with application, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver integrated, scalable, and secure database solutions.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing :  Maintain detailed documentation, runbooks, and post-incident reviews to promote transparency, learning, and operational maturity.

Our Principal System Engineering role earns between  $116,700–$175,100 USD annually . Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education / training.
