Position Title : Director of Finance and Operations
Reports To : Chief Executive Officer
Status : Full-Time, Exempt
Position Summary
Family Support Services is seeking a thoughtful and steady leader to serve as our Director of Finance and Operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring the financial strength and smooth day-to-day operations of one of Amarillos longest-standing nonprofit organizations.
The person in this role will be hands-on with our budgetsmaintaining both the agencys overall operating budget and the individual program budgets connected to our grants and contracts. We are looking for someone who loves numbers as much as they care about peoplea professional who can keep the books balanced while helping a mission-driven team do its best work.
This position offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from our long-time Chief Operating Officer before his retirement, ensuring a smooth transition of knowledge and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Manage and monitor the agencys overall operating budget as well as program, grant, and contract budgets.
- Oversee QuickBooks and other accounting systems, ensuring accuracy and transparency in all financial reports.
- Prepare clear and timely financial statements for the CEO, Board of Directors, and funding partners.
- Support program directors in understanding and managing their own budgets.
- Assist in long-term financial planning and cost allocation.
Grants and Contract Oversight
Track budgets and expenditures for all grants and contracts to ensure compliance and timely reporting.Prepare monthly grants / contract summaries for the leadership team.Support staff in maintaining sound financial documentation for audits and renewals.Operations and Administration
Oversee purchasing and vendor agreements to ensure efficient and responsible use of resources.Coordinate facility operations in partnership with the Facilities Manager.Ensure smooth administrative systems that keep the organization running efficiently.Audit and Compliance
Work closely with the audit firm to prepare documentation for the annual audit.Maintain consistent internal controls and uphold agency financial policies.Leadership and Collaboration
Supervise and support assigned staff, currently including Accounts Payable and Facilities Management.Build collaborative relationships across divisions to strengthen communication and fiscal responsibility.Contribute to a positive, transparent, and mission-driven work culture.Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA or advanced degree preferred).At least five years of progressive experience in nonprofit finance, public accounting, or business operations.Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks.Experience managing multiple program or grant budgets simultaneously.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Commitment to the mission and values of Family Support Services.Why Join Our Team
