Responsibilities
Position Summary : The Emergency Department Technician provides quality supportive patient care that involves direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the Emergency Department's Registered Nurse or Physician.
- Provides supportive care to Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse or physician and performs approved procedures per policy.
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member and supports and assists team members in all activities.
- Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with documentation, coworkers, patients and physicians.
- Recognizes and reports appropriate data to the RN / MD / NP / PA.
- Assists registered nurse and providers with assessments, examinations and treatment.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting the physician with splint or cast application.
- Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines.
- Assists with patient transfers.
- Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
- Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
- Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.
- Assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.
- Monitors stock and restocks supplies as needed in the Emergency Department.
- Transports patients and supplies to diagnostic departments and nursing units.
- Acts as a clinical preceptor for students and / or orientees.
- Maintains policies and procedures established by the department.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, meetings and workshops, and shows responsibility for ongoing education.
- Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
- Operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintains a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians and hospital staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Customer Service : Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
- Maintains a pleasant and helpful demeanor, and presents a professional appearance toward all internal and external customers at all times.
- Initiates interaction to assist individuals who may not be direct customers of the employee (e.g., asking patients who appear lost if they need assistance).
- Takes appropriate action to resolve service difficulties and ensure necessary action is taken to address the customer's problem.
- Conducts all work activities with respect for coworkers, maintaining a pleasant and professional environment and fostering calmness during stressful situations.
- Interacts with supervisory personnel in a professional, supportive and courteous manner and manages emotions appropriately.
- Demonstrates a commitment to service through consistent attendance and punctuality, and by complying with departmental scheduling requirements.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent.Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred, required within 6 months of hire.CNA certification or EMT license with at least one year of work experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.Basic computer knowledge.Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards.Demonstrated ability to direct and triage in a highly fluid dynamic operational environment.Ability to collaborate with all layers of the management / administration team.Employment Status
