Part-Time Firefighter

The City of Independence is seeking a Part-Time Firefighter to join the City's Fire Department.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Suppression of Fire.
• Prevention of Fire.
• Perform Emergency Medical Care.
• Handling of Hazardous Materials; Usually Under Hazardous Conditions.
• Responds to Alarms.
• Provides Emergency Medical Service & Transport.
• Assists in Suppression of Fires Including Entry, Rescue, Ventilating and Salvage Work.
• Conducts Fire Scene Investigation Activities.
• Conducts Fire Inspections.
• Acts as a Community Relations Representative to the Public.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

Education : Any combination of education and experience with a minimum of high school graduation or G.E.D. supplemented by required firefighting and emergency medical paramedic training as well as some prior experience in the emergency services field.

Additional : Must be a citizen of the United States of America. Preference will be given to candidates who live within (15) radius of the Independence Fire Station due to the importance of immediate need for response in an emergency. Must be of good moral character; Emotional stability, maturity and sound judgment are also required.
