Position Description :
The Industrial Maintenance Trainer at VOLT Institute plays a critical role in equipping students with the technical competencies required to thrive in modern manufacturing environments. Reporting to the leadership of VOLT Institute—a joint initiative of Opportunity Stanislaus and the Stanislaus County Office of Education—the Trainer delivers hands-on, industry-aligned instruction in industrial maintenance. This role ensures students are proficient in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex manufacturing systems and equipment.
The Trainer collaborates with subject matter experts and leverages a curriculum developed in partnership with leading U.S. manufacturers. The position is instrumental in maintaining high instructional standards and adapting training to meet evolving industry demands, supporting the broader mission of preparing a job-ready, highly skilled local workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Technical Instruction
- Deliver hands-on training in core industrial maintenance areas, including :
AC / DC Electrical Systems (highly preferred)
Motors and PumpsPneumaticsWelding and FabricationMechanical DrivesVariable Frequency Drives (VFDs)Process Control SystemsUtilize Amatrol training equipment to support technical instruction and student practice.Follow an industry-endorsed curriculum that aligns with program outcomes and labor market needs.Classroom & Lab Management
Operate the training environment with standards that reflect real-world manufacturing settings, including :Work-appropriate attendance expectations
Break / lunch protocols and professionalismModel and reinforce industrial safety best practices and compliance (e.g., OSHA standards).Ensure all instructional materials, labs, and equipment are used properly and safely.Credentialing & Compliance
Maintain active certification with SACA and secure any additional credentials required by the program.Ensure compliance with institutional, legal, and safety guidelines at all times.Comply with reporting procedures related to workplace safety, injury prevention, and infection control.Student Engagement & Support
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance using VOLT’s digital systems.Attend staff and program meetings to monitor student progress and training effectiveness.Provide supportive, inclusive instruction to students from a wide range of cultural and demographic backgrounds.Effectively communicate expectations, progress, and performance feedback to students.Professional Expectations
Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance; be prepared to teach and engage with students as scheduled.Represent VOLT Institute and Opportunity Stanislaus professionally and positively in all interactions and community-facing activities.General Duties

Ability to follow established curriculum while creating an interactive, student-centered learning atmosphere that meets course goals and objectives.Proficiency in applying diverse instructional strategies and techniques, incorporating appropriate engagement methods to enhance comprehension and retention.Skill in evaluating student performance, identifying areas where learning objectives are unmet, and recommending or implementing necessary instructional adjustments.Strong leadership capabilities in classroom management, including oversight of student behavior, time management, and training material organization.Effective organizational and time management skills to ensure smooth operation of training sessions.Attention to detail coupled with strong customer service orientation to meet the needs of students and stakeholders.Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude conducive to a collaborative work environment.Bilingual skills are advantageous and preferred.Education and Experience :
Associate's Degree or higher in Industrial Maintenance or related focus OR (10) years of progressive experience in Industrial Maintenance.5 years of industrial maintenance and repair in an industrial setting, i.e., Industrial Electricity, Pneumatics / Hydraulics, Mechanical Drives.5 years of experience in welding in an industrial setting.Experience as a supervisor, team leader, or Trainer in an industrial environment is strongly desired.Valid Class C driver’s license and ability to travel to meetings and training off-site.Physical and Environmental Conditions and Demands :
Indoors in a typical manufacturing environment with some exposure to moderate noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes approximately seventy-five percent (75%) of the time.Frequently, computers are used at workstations for up to two hours at a time.Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule and evening / weekend hours in order to accommodate training schedules.May occasionally move (walk or drive) from one work location to another.Attendance and punctuality.Mobility within the office.Mobility within the facility, including movement up and down stairs.Ability to work in hot and cold environments.Ability to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs.Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.Ability to drive a vehicle.
