Arizona State Licensure for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Job Details
Licensed Practical Nurse responsible for basic nursing duties including execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, sick call, assisting physician in examinations and treatments, and performing technical / clinical procedures within license scope.
Assist in professional management of facility medical department.
Apply nursing skills in care and treatment of inmates / residents.
Attend sick call with physician, prepare list of inmates / residents to be examined, prepare examining room and equipment.
Operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required.
Control medication, syringes, medical supplies, and inventory as per procedures.
Perform emergency procedures as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work area.
Document and report activities according to policies including medical file documentation.
Assist supervisor in evaluating medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records.
Observe and record inmate / resident behavior.
Inspect medical unit for contraband items; securely store or dispose supplies and equipment.
Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; process reports timely.
Interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, and documents.
Respond to lawsuits via corporate counsel; attend court hearings as necessary; conduct chart research; review status of inmates with serious health problems for intervention and treatment.
Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates / residents, visitors, and public, especially in sensitive situations.
Help evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for safe working environment.
Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC / ACA / JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take action in serious incidents and emergencies.
Escort or coordinate movement of inmates / residents for medical treatment.
Assist in investigations and inquiries by gathering information, interviewing, and exercising judgment on disciplinary actions.
Work in confined areas, rotating shifts, and physically check security of doors, windows, and other areas.
Be aware of potential verbal abuse in hostile environment.
