Landscape Maintenance Technician

Payroll / Classification Title : Maintenance Technician
Supervision Received / Supervision Exercised : Receives close supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.
Distinguishing Characteristics : This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker in that it provides semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance work.
Work Schedule (PARKS) : The normal work week is on a 5 / 40 schedule; 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 30 PM Monday through Friday and one assigned weekend shift. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours, including weekends. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
Work Schedule (HOUSING) : The normal work week is on a 9 / 80 schedule; 7 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM Monday through Thursday, with alternating Fridays off. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours, including weekends. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
Working Conditions : Positions in this class typically require : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noise and travel.
Essential Functions : (This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)
Position specific responsibilities might include : Keeping grounds at city owned facilities, street landscapes, and parks including irrigation maintenance; removing litter; performing weed abatement; inspecting grounds; applying chemicals and pesticides; purchasing supplies.
