Registered Nurse (Procedures)

Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor this position is responsible to provide quality nursing care within her / his scope of practice in the Procedures department of Bakersfield Family Medical Center. The Procedures Registered Nurse (RN) collaborates with the BFMC health care team to promote optimal patient treatment and outcomes by using critical thinking, communication n, and assessment skills. The Procedures RN implements patient procedures, tests, medication administration, and education as ordered by the provider while adhering to policy and regulatory guidelines. The Procedures RN will participate in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy, and goals of BFMG. The Procedures RN will interact with other departments, clinic personnel and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers.

1.1 Appropriate telephone etiquette.

1.2 Knowledge of basic nursing.

1.3 Possesses good clinic judgment, careful listening, critical thinking, and assessment skills in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and composed.

1.4 Must be skilled on what questions to ask, as she / he cannot rely on visual observations or diagnostic tests to help make a diagnosis of patient's problem.

1.5 Triaging patient problems and provide patient education over the phone, or when appropriate.

1.6 Responsible for assessing patients checked-in by Medical Assistants and / or Licensed Vocational Nurses, when reported to.

1.7 Responsible for obtaining and documenting all pertinent patient information.

1.8 Document in patient electronic medical record and ensure that all encounters are completed properly.

1.9 Responsible for verifying provider's orders for the procedure.

1.10 Competence on procedures / services offered in BFMC Procedures :

• Ankle-Brachial Index
• Audiometry
• Blood transfusion
• Catheterization of the bladder
• Colostomy / Urostomy care
• Ear lavage
• Electrocardiogram and recognizing basic arrhythmias
• Nebulizer treatments
• Overnight pulse oximetry testing
• Pre- employment and annual PE
• Pulmonary Function Test
• Specimen collection - blood draw, urinalysis, culture swabs, etc.
• TB skin testing and result interpretation
• Therapeutic phlebotomy
• Wound care and dressing changes
• Basic orthopedic splinting and application of Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

1.11 Responsible for performing CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing.

1.12 Proficient in intravenous catheter insertion, intravenous medications, and infusion therapy.

1.13 Proficient in intravenous therapy including access and care to peripheral and central lines.

1.14 Proficient in venous access devices (PICC, port-a-cath) - access, infusion, dressing change, maintenance flushing and care according to standards and policy.

1.15 Administer medication as prescribed by a provider, within scope of practice.

1.16 Capable of obtaining vital signs and knowing the parameter of abnormal highs and lows, and when to notify a provider.

1.17 Delegate patient care duties to support staff, as appropriate.

1.18 Maintain patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA.

1.19 Maintain compliance with infection control and proper waste management.

1.20 Reinforce and support patient education programs.

1.21 Maintain patient flow and ensure adherence to patient's scheduled appointment times.

1.22 Stock and maintain medication and other medical supplies.

1.23 Ability to anticipate, assist, and perform procedures ordered by IPA and staff model providers, within scope of practice.

1.24 Tasking results to staff model providers or faxing results to IPA providers.

1.25 Coordinating with provider's clinic and other departments (e. Urgent Care, Priority Care, Family Practice, etc.) for patient care.

1.26 Maintain all equipment used for patient care and testing.

1.27 Responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of equipment, as necessary.

1.28 Assume responsibilities for narcotic medications, as assigned.

1.29 Responsible for assisting with training and orientation of new personnel.

1.30 Supervise patient care performed by Medical Assistants and Licensed Vocational Nurses.

1.31 Identify problems, provide solutions, and evaluate results as needed.

1.32 Responsible for monitoring clinic daily and monthly logs (quality control, temperature, autoclave, etc.)

1.33 Ensure proper handling, administration, and documentation of all medications as ordered by the provider, within scope of practice.

1.34 Responsible to initiate and / or participate in Code White, Code Blue, Code Red, and Code 7 situations as they arise, within scope of practice.

1.35 Must be familiar with contents of Policy and Procedure book and MSDS.

1.36 Must provide current proof of licensure and BLS certification.

1.37 Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

8.1 Graduate of an accredited school for Registered Nurses.

8.2 Current California Registered Nurse Licensure.

8.3 Current BLS / ACLS certification.

8.4 One (1) year of clinic nursing experience, preferred.

8.5 Wound care certification, preferred.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $53.77 and $63.26 However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department / team performance, and market factors.
