Horticultural Attendant - Leader
Works with and directs Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators and other labor to maintain the grounds and landscaping of the campus at LSU Baton Rouge and other off-site LSU properties as directed. This job entails working in adverse weather conditions, requires the ability to lift 50Ibs, and involves work on weekends and after hours as necessary.
Job Responsibilities
Works with and directs a crew of other grounds workers, contractors. and / or supplemental labor to maintain the grounds in assigned areas to levels of safety, appearance, and health as required. Operates or directs others working with power riding tractors, mowers (usually less that 25HP) entrances, canals, building perimeters, tree perimeters, road sides, etc. in a neat, clean, and safe condition. Supports other crews as necessary. (75%)
Directs others or personally applies chemicals for weed control, pest control, fertilization and amendment of soils; applies mulch to beds and under tree canopies, performs weed removal, assists with ornamental and flower planting, litter removal, litter container servicing for cleanliness, cigarette butt removal, etc. (10%)
Directs others or personally assists with irrigation work, digging, grading and drain basin cleaning, and other types of grounds related tasks as needed. (5%)
Fills in for a Horticulture Attendant Foreman to direct the activity of 2 or more crews of Horticulture Attendants. Mobile Equipment Operators and others in assigned tasks. Fills out time sheets. vacancy paper work, etc. as required. (5%)
Performs other work as necessary (5%)
Minimum Qualifications :
Two years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Twelve semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
