Job Description
Our Project Managers are responsible for the total management of a wide variety of custom fabricated projects that move through a 90,000 sq ft. facility that fabricates high quality exhibits, environments, scenery and specialty interiors for a wide-ranging client base, including : museums, cultural institutions, libraries and corporations.
You will completely own and manage projects with a strong focus on fiscal responsibility by setting achievable goals, beginning with scheduling, engineering and detailing, and extending through purchasing, fabrication, finishing, delivery, installation, and final punch list. You are responsible for developing and following a project schedule, moving elements through detailing efficiently, purchasing materials, ensuring we meet our high production standards, and managing the overall project time and materials budget.
You will champion strong and open communications within our organization and with our clients.
Main Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Strategy : Develop a deep understanding of the project scope to lead and manage all aspects strategically and proactively. Drive successful outcomes across financial, schedule, resource, and quality performance.
- Planning & Scheduling : Create and maintain a comprehensive project schedule, aligning shop capacity, resource availability, and client expectations. Establish clear milestones for critical project elements and hold team members accountable to those goals.
- Design & Detailing Oversight : Partner with the Associate Director of Design Detailing to initiate, review, and approve design detailing, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Financial & Resource Management : Utilize QuickBooks, Access, RUNN, and project proposals to monitor fiscal performance and make proactive decisions to achieve budget goals. Order materials in a timely manner, anticipate long-lead items, and ensure all necessary materials are on hand before fabrication begins.
- Collaboration & Team Alignment : Work closely with Project Managers, the ADPM, Director of Production, and Project Leads to maximize efficiency across the office and shop. Keep the team aligned with current drawings, processes, and material choices. Mediate disagreements where possible and escalate unresolved issues to the ADPM as appropriate.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Collaboration : Identify project scope that can be handled by outside sources. Oversee the contracting and scheduling of these resources, and own quality control of deliverables.
- Communication & Support : Proactively engage with the ADPM regarding project concerns and request additional support when needed. Maintain open communication to ensure clarity and smooth project delivery.
- Continuous Improvement : Actively identify opportunities for professional growth, new learning, and exploration to strengthen project outcomes and personal expertise.
Minimum Job Requirements
This is a full-time in office (Lincolnwood, IL) position that aligns with our shop hours, 7a-4p CT.Wear protective eyewear at all times on the shop floor. Ear protection as required.Sit for prolonged periods.Some travel for meetings, site visits and punch list walk throughs.Remain available to the project team when a project is on overtime.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Relevant degree / diploma, professional certification, or equivalent work experience / demonstrated skills.Minimum of 5 years' project management experience in a related field.Broad knowledge of modern fabrication methods and technologies.Ability to estimate project labor and material costs.Ability to communicate proficiently and proactively with all personnel.Ability to direct multiple projects concurrently.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.Strong organizational and planning skills.Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality control.Strong computer skills, with ability to learn new programs quickly.A critical eye for detail and aesthetics.
