The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as the lead engineer in charge of projects within their discipline, overseeing design, technical quality, and client coordination. This role is in person in our Hanover, MA office and includes supervision of staff members, managing project schedules, and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The individual will act as the primary client contact for electrical engineering services and will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction administration.
Responsibilities include code research, system selection, performing calculations, preparing power riser diagrams, coordinating with utility companies, sizing and selecting equipment, writing technical narratives and reports, developing specifications, reviewing shop drawings, and providing construction inspection services.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will work on a wide range of facilities including commercial, multi-family residential, biomedical laboratories, healthcare, educational, institutional, commercial and industrial projects.
- Key Responsibilities :
- Lead design of building electrical systems including interior and exterior lighting, medium- and low-voltage power distribution, critical power systems, standby and emergency power systems, generators, paralleling switchgear, transfer switches, UPS, grounding, and lightning protection
- Design fire alarm systems
- Perform electrical system analyses including short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies
- Incorporate renewable energy and energy-efficient strategies, with knowledge of solar, wind, cogeneration, LEED, and Green Globes certification requirements
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations (feeders, services, transformers, short circuit, and load analysis)
- Conduct site surveys of existing facilities and equipment to verify installations, survey existing conditions, and support project coordination as needed
- Conduct periodic site observations during the construction process
- Review project schedules and deliverables with the project engineer; ensure cross-disciplinary coordination
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide field support to resolve design-related issues during construction
- Attend project and client meetings as required
- Write reports, feasibility studies, and technical narratives
- Support development and maintenance of electrical design standards
- Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to junior engineers and designers
- Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in electrical engineering design for building systems
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution, fire alarm systems, lighting design (interior / exterior), and lighting controls
- Proficiency in system analysis including short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies; ability to interpret results and apply findings
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes including NEC, NFPA, IBC, IECC, Life Safety Code, and state building codes (Massachusetts preferred)
- Experience coordinating with utilities and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction)
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to lead client interactions
- General proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- EIT certification preferred; PE license highly desirable
- LEED accreditation preferred
