job_description.job_card.job_descriptionGather and Analyze Patient Information : Verify the medical order and protocol. Review history, physical information, medications, procedure request and study protocol. Complete and verify documentation. Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center. Testing Preparation Procedures : Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals. Perform routine CPAP mask fitting. Polysomnographic Procedures : Follow procedural protocols such as MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, CPAP and oxygen titration, to ensure collection of data; establish baseline values; monitor study-tracing quality; identify and report signal abnormalities; document observations of sleep stages and clinical events; implement interventions for patient safety and therapy per hospital guidelines; verify patient questionnaires and consent forms; manage patient charts; provide age-appropriate care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients; follow all protocols in the policy manual. Polysomnographic Record Scoring : Score sleep / wake stages and clinical events; generate accurate reports. Service Management and Professional Issues : Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control; participate in equipment care and maintenance; maintain current CPR certification; demonstrate effective written and spoken communication; comply with BRPT Standards of Conduct. Physical Demands and Work Environment : The job includes typical physical demands (standing, using hands, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally) and work environment considerations (exposure to chemicals and infectious agents). Reasonable accommodations may be made. Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography, or certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent. Certified in Basic Life Support (CPR). Able to perform polysomnographic procedures, including night study, MSLT and MWT under the direct supervision of the Lead Technologist or designee (RPSGT). Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of CPAP / BLPAP titration. Works with minimal supervision; provides mentoring support to Sleep Center. Support the Clinical Director and / or Lead Technologist. Effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population; ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional development of all age groups. Overview : A Polysomnographic Technician works under the general supervision of the clinical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist / Scorer can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide oversight of other staff.
