Essential Job Functions
Operate gradall, walking excavator, winch truck, motor grader, backhoe, vac truck, front-end loader, sweeper and other motorized equipment of comparable size and complexity.
Guide and coordinate teams of skilled and semi-skilled workers on various public works projects. Ensure conformance to all departmental construction and maintenance practices, policies, and procedures and provide formal input for employee performance evaluations.
Input daily work activities, utilize and maintain integrity of information in CarteGraph OMS work order management system in absence of supervisor.
Understand and interpret Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TxMUTCD), and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) rules and regulations related to setup and maintenance of all work zone traffic control devices for performance of work.
Operate required heavy equipment, trucks and vehicles for emergency operations response including dump trucks, sanders, emergency response trailer, salt brine spreaders, snowplows, temporary stop signs, generators, chain saws and miscellaneous hand tools. Ability to lead a crew during emergency operations.

Interpret survey information to achieve proper grade for stormwater and street projects.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Assist in responding to citizen requests.
Provide input on equipment and vehicle specifications.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of operating characteristics of heavy equipment.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of construction.
Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft word and excel Knowledge of CarteGraph OMS system.
Skill in operating related heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
Skill in performing minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
Skill in communicating with other City employees and the public by oral and written means.
Ability to maintain Confined Space Certification Training - portray role of Competent Person for assessment of potential hazards and monitoring of air quality during confined space entry.
Ability to understand and follow written instructions.
Ability to tolerate noise, rough movement and other discomforts created by equipment.
Ability to learn emergency operations SOPs.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound.
Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, sitting, carrying, lifting and writing.
Ability to operate a variety of motorized vehicles and equipment.
Ability to lift 751bs on a repetitive basis.
Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes of weather and temperature.
Qualifying Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent and one year experience in electrical construction.
Valid Texas Class C Operator's License required. Must obtain a Texas Commercial Driver's License, Class "A", within six (6) months of employment.
Confined Space Certification.
IMSA Roadway Lighting level 1 preferred or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
