Summary
Manages projects from design through completion, including support of plans of projects with engineering department. Works under the supervision and direction of a Corrosion Supervisor. Helps designs new or relocation pipe facilities such as gas distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects. Performs all aspects of cathodic protection work, including analysis, design and maintenance of cathodic protection systems. Performs manual and skilled duties in the construction, operation, maintenance, and corrosion control program for natural gas pipelines in accordance with DOT 192 Regulations.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities
- Designs intermediate gas distribution facilities and associated support systems including cathodic protection.
- Provides design support to local gas operations.
- Coordinates efforts with customers and all vendors that provide corrosion-related services, including all CNP districts gas and / or electric.
- Communicates with district operations staff to determine where corrections are needed or to assist with problems.
- Mentors and trains new employees.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the permanent natural gas distribution system records, including its evolution, development, archiving, and maintenance.
- Analyzes field data gathering activities, including test point checks, rectifier readings, bond readings, and pipe-to-soil results.
- Designs and installs gas pipeline protection systems, including installation of conventional ground beds and sacrificial anodes when required.
- Troubleshoots the Cathodic Protection system to determine repair needs.
- Maintains all records related to cathodic protection systems.
- Ensures design, maintenance, and construction requirements meet regulatory requirements established by municipal, parish, state, and federal authorities.
- Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Company standards pertaining to corrosion control, investigations, operations and maintenance in general.
- Complies with all DOT and OSHA federal regulations, including staying abreast of changes and updates that may occur.
- Other duties as determined by Manager of Technical Field Operations or TFO Operations Supervisor.
Education
Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculation of fractions and / or percentages), grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Experience
Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in natural gas utility design or a minimum of four (4) years of related construction project design.

Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Also able to view and operate a personal computer monitor or laptop screen and sit for long periods. Able to operate office machines including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc. Able to operate a motor vehicle including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.
Working Conditions
Able to respond to emergency on-call assignments such as Emergency Response (ER) and All Hazards Operations Plan (AHOP) if needed.Able to work indoors in a normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, hot, dirty and / or greasy equipment and noise when at field installation sites.Able to work regular daytime hours and occasional weekends / evenings as required.Able to travel outside of primary work location, in any weather conditions and occasionally overnight, to field locations, remote areas, conferences and / or meetings.Able to wear personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, and ear plugs occasionally as required by the work.Able to work with routine exposure to all weather conditions, dirty / greasy equipment, hot equipment and noise.Able to work rotating shifts if required and to respond to callouts, occasionally returning to work while off duty.Able to travel out of town, which may require occasional overnight stays.Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT safety-sensitive positions.This job description reflects an assignment of essential functions and does not prescribe or restrict the tasks for this position.
