Visit Oakland is seeking a Marketing Manager to work in partnership with the Director of Marketing. This individual will support the promotion of Oakland as a leading destination through several marketing initiatives. The individual must be a strong writer that can adapt to any brand voice while sharing Oakland’s many destination assets with locals, visitors and potential visitors from around the world.
The Marketing Manager should be organized, creative, personable, comfortable working with the public, and have an aptitude for problem solving. The position as Marketing Manager requires multi‑tasking, taking on new projects and managing day‑to‑day administrative duties.
The Marketing Manager will be part of an experienced, supportive team of professionals and work in a fun, productive environment. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sales marketing initiatives in collaboration with the Sales Team and Director of Marketing, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and audience segmentation.
- Develop and execute digital campaigns on platforms such as LinkedIn, including the #MeetingMonday series and short‑form video content tailored to meetings and group sales audiences.
- Oversee the relationship with Satisfi Labs, including performance tracking, strategic adjustments, and integration of AI tools into broader marketing initiatives.
- Participate in monthly SEO / PPC calls with Simpleview, contribute insights, and implement takeaways to support group sales and destination visibility.
- Assist with vendor relationships as needed, including third‑party partners to ensure timely delivery, quality standards, and budget alignment.
- Manage creation of sales marketing collateral, meetings newsletters, and group offers; coordinate messaging and delivery timelines across departments.
- Monitor community and partner event calendars to identify key opportunities for inclusion in Visit Oakland’s online calendar via the Simpleview CRM.
- Support Board and Governance initiatives, including the planning and execution of Board Meeting and Executive Committee presentations, annual retreats, and special programs.
- Spearhead the development of the annual IMPACT 510 : The Tourism Day presentation, working cross‑departmentally to capture key accomplishments and strategic priorities.
- Oversee marketing e‑newsletters through Act‑On, maintaining content calendars, performance reporting, and list segmentation.
- Maintain and optimize blog content, ensuring timely updates and alignment with brand voice and sales goals.
- Manage creative assets development, including coordination with graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to maintain a robust content library in partnership with Director of Marketing.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing on sponsorship‑related activations, co‑branded campaigns, and strategic partnerships.
- Lead the development and execution of marketing collateral, working with the Director of Marketing and external vendors on print and digital materials.
- Provide CRM support and data integrity oversight as it pertains to marketing campaigns and sales activity.
- Assist with promotion fulfillment for contests and sales promotions, ensuring accurate tracking and partner coordination.
- Represent Visit Oakland at events and conferences as needed, including after‑hours engagements and industry functions.
- Maintain brand integrity and destination reputation across all sales and marketing materials and communications.
- Support ongoing marketing team operations, attend weekly team meetings, and contribute to organizational planning and growth strategies.
- Other marketing and sales‑related projects as assigned by the Director of Marketing.
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in a marketing role.BS in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media or Public Relations or proven working experience in related field.Excellent writing, proof‑reading and communication skills.Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels.Energetic self‑starter with good interpersonal and collaborative teamwork skills. Has a positive attitude and is self‑directed.Fluency in English, Spanish is a plus.Extensive knowledge of Oakland, California.The ideal candidate will be interested in career advancement in the destination marketing industry.Able to work weekends and evenings as needed.Valid driver’s license required with clean DMV record.Physical Requirements
